Here’s a link to the NRA which discusses this program in greater length

Where is the program held?

The program will be held at the indoor range, 2621 East 7th St., Cheyenne, WY

Who can participate?

The NRA Pistol Program is open to all CRPC members and non-members, including juniors!  All juniors (ages 12-17) MUST be accompanied on the shooting line at all times by a non-shooting adult, and the adult must wear eye and hearing protection.

It this a shooting competition?

NO!!  The intent of the program is to encourage the shooter to “practice with a purpose.”  There are seven different courses of fire.  You are competing against yourself and the target.  You are not competing against other shooters.  This purpose of the course is to build your shooting skill!

What kind of handgun can I use to shoot the course of fire?

You may shoot any safe semi-automatic or revolver style handgun.  The instructors strongly advise using a .22 caliber rim-fire handgun in order to lower the cost of the ammunition as well as for instructional purposes.

What caliber(s) can I shoot?

You can shoot .22 caliber rim-fire all the way up to a .45 ACP. All other calibers are subject to our indoor range caliber restrictions.  Please check with the program facilitator to make sure your handgun is permitted on our range!

How difficult are the courses of fire?

All courses are shot from the 15 foot mark.

Does the program provide ammunition?

No.  It is the shooter’s responsibility to provide both the handgun as well as the ammunition.

Beside a handgun and ammunition, what else do I need to bring?

Everyone in the indoor portion of the firing range is required to bring and wear both safety glasses and adequate hearing protection.  You can NOT shoot without these items!  There are no exceptions unless you wear prescription eyeglasses and they meet the firearm safety standards.  Adults accompanying juniors on the firing line are also required to bring and wear eye and hearing protection.

Do I need to bring targets?

No.  All targets are provided as part of your paid fees.

Can I bring a friend to watch?

Yes, but they must watch from our observation area.

What if I am NOT an experienced shooter?

The program is supervised by two NRA Certified Pistol instructors and they can help you build your skill set.  These practice sessions are no substitute for taking an NRA Basic Pistol Course to learn more about the fundamentals of firearms as well as correct shooting methods.  Cheyenne Rifle and Pistol Club offers an excellent NRA Basic Pistol course.  Information about this course can be found by clicking on “Classes & Education” link at the top of this page.

How much does the program cost?

CRPC members with an NRA membership – $40.00
CRPC members without an NRA membership – $55.00
Non-CRPC members with an NRA membership – $60.00
Non-CRPC members without an NRA membership – $75.00
