CRPC proudly hosts the NRA Basic Pistol Course – Instructor Led

instructor_logo

Conducted over a 2-day period, this classroom program includes such topics as safe gun handling, identifying the different parts of a firearm, the differences between a single and double action revolver and different versions of semi-automatic pistols, proper aiming and shooting techniques, different stances, selecting both a firearm and ammunition, carrying a firearm concealed, and how to clean, care, maintain, and safely store your firearms. A detailed discussion is also conducted on the legal aspects of using a firearm for self-defense as well as a thorough discussion of “shoot / don’t shoot” scenarios.

We believe that shooting is a very integral part of learning firearm fundamentals.  In our Basic Pistol program you will shoot approximately 150-200 rounds!  Most classes do not include this much shooting and while you are on the firing line, our course includes one-on-one instruction with a certified NRA Firearms Instructor present with you while you are shooting to coach you along!

The basic pistol course is designed for both the new and experienced shooter. The course is something all shooters will enjoy and you will come away having learned things you would not expect in a course of this type.  Whether or not you intend to carry a concealed weapon, this course is for you!

If you have any specific questions concerning the course please call Rocky Edmonds at 970-237-0180 and leave your name and phone number and he will return your call.  Alternatively, you can send an email to education@cheyennerifleandpistolclub.org or RockaEd@proton.me and make your inquiry there.

This class satisfies the requirements for the Wyoming Concealed Carry Permit, Colorado, and possibly other states as well.

The cost for the NRA Basic Pistol program is $75.00, or if you are an employee of an education facility (school district, community college or university, private school, or a pre-school) the cost is $35.00.  If you are member of CRPC you can deduct $5.00 from the above fees.

If you do not have a firearm, CRPC can supply you with a pistol.  Please contact either of our Lead NRA Firearms Instructor to inquire about using one of the club’s firearms.  However, it is recommended that you bring your own firearm with at least 200 rounds of ammunition.  The range will accept any non-magnum rounds.  NO .357 magnum, .44 magnum, 5.7×28, .357 Sig, or 17HMR.  If you have something unique that you plan on bringing to shoot, please check with the class coordinator PRIOR to the course.  Allot yourself plenty of time to purchase and have the suggested 200 rounds of ammunition.  Please wear comfortable shoes as we will be standing most of the day.  We recommend NOT wearing v-neck or low cut shirts or blouses as spent brass can lodge against your skin and burn you.  In the winter months we strongly recommend wearing a light sweater (hoody jacket, etc.) as it can be a little cool on the range.

NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home

Beginning in November 2016, Cheyenne Rifle & Pistol Club is excited to host the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home course.  This is the next level of recommended training after the NRA Basic Pistol Course and completion of the NRA Basic Pistol Course is a prerequisite (students MUST provide a copy of their certificate showing successful completion of the NRA Basic Pistol Course).

Using what was taught in the NRA Basic Pistol as a foundation, the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH) expands on that and prepares you to have the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude to provide protection of yourself, your family, and your home.  To truly benefit from this course, students must be experienced shooters and have a thorough knowledge and skill in the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting and adjusting from a group, and cleaning a firearm.  It is also important that students have a suitable level of maturity to be able to rapidly assess situations and make split-second decisions.

This is a very dynamic course and involves a lot of movement while shooting.  You will need to supply your own firearm with at least 150 rounds of ammunition, along with three magazines or three speed loaders.  The range will accept any non-magnum rounds.  NO .357 magnum, .44 magnum, 5.7×28, .357 Sig, or 17HMR.  If you have something unique that you plan on bringing to shoot, please check with the class coordinator PRIOR to the course.  Also allot yourself plenty of time to purchase and have the suggested 150 rounds of ammunition.  Please wear comfortable shoes as we will be standing most of the day.  We recommend NOT wearing v-neck or low cut shirts or blouses as spent brass can lodge against your skin and burn you.  In the winter months we strongly recommend a light sweater (hoody jacket, etc.) to wear as it can be a little cool on the range.

Topics covered in this course are:

  • Lesson 1:  Introduction to Defensive Shooting
  • Lesson 2:  Basic Defensive Handgun Skills
  • Lesson 3:  Firearms and the Law – Possession, Ownership, and the Use of Deadly Force
  • Lesson 4:  Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
  • Lesson 5:  Selecting a Firearm for Self-Defense
  • Lesson 6:  Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities
  • Lesson 7:  Course Review and Examination

Course materials will be distributed on the first day of class and those successfully completing the course will be given an NRA Certificate of Completion.

RUN – HIDE – FIGHT
Surviving an Active Shooter Incident

This class was written by one of our Lead NRA Firearms Instructors.  Its foundation stems from a recently developed video created by the FBI to address an active shooter incident.  We take the FBI’s “RUN-HIDE-FIGHT” approach and expand it into an informative seminar that will hopefully help people think “outside the box” and give them ideas and concepts to sufficiently address an active shooter incident.  This seminar is intended for small or large groups, or employers who wish to present this information to their employees.  For additional information or questions send an email to education@cheyennerifleandpistolclub.org with your name and contact information and one of our instructors will contact you.

  • No classes scheduled at this time.

Refuse To Be A Victim

This 4-hour seminar brings ideas, concepts, and information to you on how not to be a victim of crime.  This seminar does NOT involve firearms or shooting, but rather delivers ideas and concepts that will hopefully minimize your risk of being a victim of crime.  Seminar topics include The Psychology of Criminal Predators, Mental Preparedness, Home Security, Automobile Security, Out-of-Town Travel Security, Technological Security, and Personal Protection Devices.  Specialized modules can also be added that will cover topics about The Workplace, Parents & Children from Pre-School through High School, College Students, and Senior Citizens and Persons with Physical Disabilities.

Please email education@cheyennerifleandpistolclub.org to be added to a list for upcoming seminars, be sure to include your name, phone number, and email address.
